The Valanginian isotope event: a complex suite of palaeoenvironmental perturbations.
2011
17 pages; International audience; The Valanginian records a severe crisis of carbonate systems, both on platforms and in the pelagic realm. This crisis is roughly concomitant with the Weissert Event, characterized by a positive δ13C excursion of about 2‰in marine carbonates. However, it is unclear if the response of these two carbonate systems to the global perturbations is contemporaneous, or if they react differently. For this purpose, accumulation rates of pelagic carbonates produced by nannofossils and of platform-derived carbonates have been quantified in a hemipelagic environment (the Vocontian Basin, SE France) that has the potential to record the reaction of both shallow-water and p…

Astronomical calibration of the Valanginian and the Hauterivian stages (lower cretaceous) : paleoclimatic and paleooceanographic implications
2013
Orbital floating time scales are proposed for the Valanginian Stage and part of the Hauterivian Stage (Early Cretaceous). These are based on the identification of the eccentricity cycles from spectral analyses performed on high-resolution climatic proxies measured on hemipelagic marl-limestone alternations. Five reference sections were analysed in the Vocontian Basin (SE France), spanning the entire Valanginian. A duration of 5,08 myr is proposed for the Valanginian Stage from the identification of the 405-kyr eccentricity cycle. The time frame proposed, combined with available radiometric ages, shows that the mid-Valanginian 13C positive excursion (namely the Weissert Event) occurs prior …
Value of recN sequences for species identification and as a phylogenetic marker within the family “Leuconostocaceae”
2008
The genera Leuconostoc, Oenococcus, and Weissella (family “Leuconostocaceae”) constitute a group of lactic acid bacteria of great interest in food microbiology. From the taxonomic point of view, they are considered phylogenetically coherent according to their 16S rRNA gene sequences and other macromolecules. These three genera were the focus of the present study; specifically, the resolution and discriminatory power of recN (encoding a DNA repair and genetic recombination protein) as a molecular marker at the species level were investigated. For this purpose, partial sequences (about 1200 nt) were obtained from 23 type strains and from several additional strains following direct amplificati…
Industrial application of selected lactic acid bacteria isolated from local semolinas for typical sourdough bread production
2016
Abstract Four obligate heterofermentative lactic acid bacteria (LAB) strains (Weissella cibaria PON10030 and PON10032 and Leuconostoc citreum PON 10079 and PON10080) were tested as single strain starters, mono-species dual strain starters, and multiple strain starter for the preparation and propagation of sourdoughs for the production of a typical bread at industrial level. The kinetics of pH and TTA during the daily sourdough refreshments indicated a correct acidification process for all trials. The concentration of lactic and acetic acid increased consistently during fermentation. The resulting molar ratios between these two organic acids in the experimental trials were lower than those o…
Lo sparo e l’orologio. "Appunti" nel sistema del "Piccolo Berto" (e oltre)
2021
The essay analyzes Umberto Saba's poem Appunti in the belief that this text presents new themes and new formal strategies that are used in Il piccolo Berto and are destined to persist beyond that. In its broken and discontinuous brevity, Appunti says without explaining, it expresses a trauma that Saba does not verbalize. Saba burns the causal passages and requires the cooperation of the reader, forcing him to contribute to the construction of meaning and to fill the gaps in a text, in which silences and typographical leaps are worth as much as words. The analysis focuses on the modernity of a formal choice in which syntactic divisions and white spaces dramatize the inner restlessness. At th…
The complex life-cycle of a polymorphic prokaryote epibiont of the photosynthetic bacterium Chromatium weissei
1993
In natural populations of the anaerobic phototrophic bacterium Chromatium weissei, many cells support a prokaryotic epibiont. This epibiont appears in several forms, all from the life cycle of a single species. A typical epibiont consists of one to five flattened coccoid cells stacked one above the other, perpendicular to the C. weissei surface. The cells at the proximal and distal ends of the stack are 0.6 μm in diameter and 0.8 μm in length; mid-stack cells are slightly shorter. A typical three or four cell stack is 2 μm in length. Small mesosome-like inclusions in the distal cell are involved in the development of ‘droplet’ shaped cells which are released from the end of each stack. Thes…

The castle's Hermitage of Yecla (Region of Murcia) constituted during the 13th to 16th centuries the first parish of the population, hosting a triptych-shaped altarpiece presided over by a tempera painting on wood of Our Lady of Humility or "Virgo Lactans", dated around 1370 and attributed to the painter Barnaba da Modena, which was the titular image of the mentioned temple under the title of Our Lady of the Incarnation, until at the end of the 18th century it changed ownership for the Conception of Our Lady. The table at averages of the eight hundred was placed in an a loft, appropriating it at the beginning of the 20th century by the retired military Pascual Spuche y Lacy, who sold it aro…
